Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, November 30
Dear
Room 15 Families,
We
enjoyed a busy week back from Thanksgiving break. We took advantage of the beautiful weather,
got back into the groove of our weekly routine AND started building those fairy
habitats!
We
also read several new picture book biographies of interesting and inspiring people. I hope that you have gotten to hear about
some of the people we’ve met.
Our
amazing BOOK FAIR is taking place this week.
We hope you have time to stop by the MPR and check it out!
•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really
love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use
mistakes in your life. More

What
We Did:
Reading
|
•
In pairs, we read biographies and took notes about what we learned.
|
Writing
|
•We
continued to publish our small moment stories. Eight authors have finished books waiting
to be shared with you.
|
Math
|
•We
learned how to write numbers in word-, standard-, expanded- and unit-form.
•We
used bills ($1, $10 and $100) on a place value chart to reinforce the
importance of base ten.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
thought about how people making change in the world requires help from
different sources.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
began to build structures for our fairy habitat. Some groups started to build the actual
habitat, as well.
•We
worked on nameplates and completed a name questionnaire as homework that we
will use with our buddies.
•We
added November to our timeline of second grade (time is moving is way too
quickly!).
|
What’s
Coming Up:
•We will choose one person to
read about in a picture book biography and look for information about that same
person in another resource.
•We will continue to money to
build understanding about bigger numbers.
•We will build our fairy
habitats in art class.
•Will visit the book fair with
our buddies to create a wish list that will come home.
•We will generate questions to
use in an interview of a grandparent as we write a biography about that person.
•We will lay the pathway in our
fairy garden. This is scheduled to start
on Tuesday.
