Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, November 16
Dear
Room 15 Families,
Phew! What a whirlwind of a week THAT was! This abbreviated newsletter will match the
abbreviated week we had at school. Know
that while staying indoors during the smokey days was certainly challenging for
us, your kids showed understanding and restraint. I hope you found ways to have them burn some
energy once at home. I hope that you all
ran outdoors as soon as it was safe. The
beautiful rainy weather we have had during Thanksgiving felt extra-magical.
Please
be on the lookout for a separate email from me about fairy garden supplies.
Here’s
to a wonderful and easy re-entry into our normal routines (which include recess
OUTDOORS!).
•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really
love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use
mistakes in your life. More
info here

What
We Did:
Reading
|
•
We are focusing on biography. Reading
biography through the lens of people as “Change Agents” orients us to pay
attention to what motivated people to make a difference in their world and
the help they needed from others to make this change.
|
Writing
|
•We
worked on final drafts of our small moment stories.
|
Math
|
•We
continued to strengthen our number sense and our understanding of how we can
use place value to solve problems.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
created a class chart on our back wall to process the biographies we read
together. We are learning that people
work to make changes to improve our world.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
formed pairs and chose the foundation of our fairy habitat to place into our
fairy garden.
•We
enjoyed a gallery walk of our identity webs with our buddies.
•We
each created a unique turkey during a directed drawing activity to accompany
our Thanksgiving poem.
|
What’s
Coming Up:
•We will read biographies in
pairs and process these following the same questions on our class chart.
•We will complete topic A in
our current math unit.
•We will build our fairy
habitats in art class. Please
read the separate email regarding supplies.
•We will finish our final
copies of our Thanksgiving poems.
•Will complete the Math Review from
last week.
•We meet with our buddies.
•We might lay the pathway in
our fairy garden.
