Weekly Update for the Week Ending
Friday, October 5

Dear Room 15 Families,

We had SO much fun with Oreo!  Students are interested in hosting Oreo for the weekends.  Once s/he (we are thinking HE) is a bit bigger, I will set up a sign up genius for families that might be able to host Oreo for a weekend.

Speaking of Oreo, donations of food (dry rat food mix from Woodlands or Critterland or anywhere else) and/or shredded paper bedding (thanks goes to Mia for getting us started) would be awesome.  You can ask your child if we need any.  They will all know when it’s time to restock.

Edna Maguire Second Annual Stampede is coming to town next Sunday!  This week, Ms. Monge will help our class will make applesauce with Edna’s own organic apples.  Jars of ready-to-eat applesauce will be available at the Stampede.

Hopefully, students will log in to their GAFE accounts this week.  It’s a busy week, so we are just hoping that happens.  Check the daily briefings tab on our blog to see for sure.

There is NO READ & RELAX on Friday, October 12 due to an all-school assembly.

There is NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 8.

REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share your experience.  More info here

What We Did:
Reading
• We focused on a few nonfiction features as we shared a few articles from Read and Relax.

•We focused on setting REALISTIC reading goals for the week.  We also talked about the value of reflecting on those goals.
Writing
•We finished our first final draft of a published piece.

•We generated words lists with /bl/ (blimp), /fl/ (flip), and /cl/ (clip).  We then sorted these words.

•We had Work on Writing.
Math
•We worked hard at finding ways to explain our math thinking so that other people can understand it.

•We tested ourselves to see how many basic addition facts we have stored in our memory.
Science/Social Studies
•We used Read and Relax magazines to learn about Captions, Photographs, and Table of Contents.

•We completed the writing portion of our Me On the Map books.
Other stuff
•We learned two new greetings.

•We continued to share our Top Ten Posters.

What’s Coming Up:

•This week, we will continue our personal narratives and get them ready to publish.

•We will begin our Earth Science unit on landforms.

•We will start planning our fairy/fort garden.

•We enjoy our Stampede pep rally.

•We will make applesauce to raise money for the PTA at Sunday’s Stampede.
