Weekly
Update
for
the Week Ending
Friday,
September 7
Dear Room 15 Families,
I hope to see you at Back to
School Night on Thursday, September 13. We
will all meet at a school-wide presentation at 5:30. At 6:00, we will meet in room 15 to hear all
about second grade together. You will
hear about curriculum, routines, field trips and ways you can help us out this
year.
Important Information:
•Thank you to those of you who
volunteered to help us out as a Library
Volunteer(s) . We are all set now.
•More information about other
important ways that you can help us out this year will be shared with you at
Back to School Night.
What We Did:
Reading
|
•
We increased our reading stamina
to 25 minutes!
•I
started initial reading assessments.
•We
are focusing on recording our reading on Reading
Logs. Each week, we identify a
personal reading goal and on Fridays, we reflect on how we did towards that
goal.
|
Writing
|
•We
thought a goal we are still working towards.
This could be something related to sports, arts, or the classroom, as
we start thinking about the Power of
Yet.
|
Math
|
•We
started thinking about efficiency
as we critiqued different ways of solving or representing a math problem.
•We
learned about Making the Next Ten, Take One Out and Read, Draw, Write.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
made observations and predictions about Jelly Marbles.
•We
wrote about our results as we
experimented with Jelly Marbles.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
voted on our CLASS PET and we
chose a RAT! We will use this week to
find out what a pet rat needs.
•We
spent time outside our room in the soon-to-be renovated Fairy/Fort Garden.
|
What’s Coming Up:
•I accidentally included
information about a Home Reading Log in last week’s newsletter. We will not start that until NEXT Monday
(9/17).
•We will be learning about what
a pet rat needs.
•We will complete our first
module (unit) in math.
•We will being our weekly
routine of word study.
in
room 15, we strive to be
FOCUSED AND RELAXED
