Dear
Room 15 Families,
We
are excited about Halloween this Wednesday.
•Students are welcomed to wear
costumes to school. Our school-wide
parade starts at 8:50. The second
classrooms will come together for an whole-grade Halloween celebration from
10:15 – 11:00 that has been organized by families. THANK YOU so much for the time and thought
put into this.

What
We Did:
Reading
|
•
We met our long term reading and writing partner and shared personal reading
goals with that person. Each person
made an explicit promise to support his/her partner towards that goal.
•We
all have Just Right books in our book boxes.
Students can borrow books from our classroom whenever they need
to. Please let me know if you would
like help compiling a list of just right books. I can share that with you at our upcoming
conference.
|
Writing
|
•We
chose one piece to publish.
•We
practiced two different beginnings of that story that will grab the reader’s
attention.
|
Math
|
•We
took an end-of-module assessment and the kids showed what they knew expertly.
•Friday’s
Math Review highlighted a commitment on the part of the students to practice
being Focused and Relaxed…their scores proved that.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
completed the second Mystery Science activity. This hands-on activity answered the mystery
Why is there sand at the beach?
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
critiqued the designs of the fairy garden pathways and voted our favorite
along the three criteria we identified.
•With
the guidance of Max’s mom, students mapped out the chosen design in the
garden and made improvements to the design.
•We
accessed our GAFE accounts to see a slide show of different types of fairy
gardens.
|
What’s
Coming Up:
•This week, we will focus on
end punctuation of sentences in the small moment story we are publishin.
•We will continue our Earth
Science unit on landforms by answering the mystery What makes a canyon?.
•We will start a new math module
focused on place value.
(We got a delayed start because we spent more
time reviewing content before the last test.)
•We will work with our partners
to support each other’s growth as readers.
•We will decide on materials
for our garden path.
•We will have fun on Halloween.
