Weekly Update for the Week Ending
Friday, October 19

Dear Room 15 Families,

Two notes about the homework:

1.     Speeches are due on Friday.  Please help your child choose a photo to share, make sure it is in a frame (homemade is great) and prepare and PRACTICE a one-minute speech using the questions on the instruction sheet as a guideline.

2.     Homework folders are due every Friday.  Please make every effort to help your child remember to turn his/her homework in on that day.  I review the reading logs over the weekend and late homework does complicate the recording/filing system Hajra and I set up.

What We Did:
Reading
• We revisited the power of picture books for independent reading.  We realized that picture books at the Just Right level can continue to help us grow as readers.

•We cleaned out our book boxes.
Writing
•We continued to work on small moment stories and shared these with each other.
Math
•We finished the work of Module Two.
Science/Social Studies
•We completed the first Mystery Science activity.  This hands-on activity answered the mystery If you floated down a river, where would you end up? as we started to think about landforms and erosion of the earth’s surface.
Other stuff
•We started to design the pathways for our Fairy Garden.

•We accessed our GAFE accounts to see a slide show of different types of garden paths.

What’s Coming Up:

•This week, we will choose one small moment story to publish.

•We will continue our Earth Science unit on landforms by answering the mystery Why is there sand at the beach?.

•We will take an end-of-module math assessment and start a new module.

•We will learn more about landforms by making small booklets.

•We will decide on a design for the pathways in our Fairy Garden.
