Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, May 31
                                                                                                                        
Dear Room 15 Families,

•This THURSDAY is OPEN HOUSE.  We hope to see you between 6 – 7 pm in our room.

•This Friday the second graders will be hiking up Horse Hill for some exercise, great views and celebration together.  Please make sure your child comes to school with comfortable shoes, a water bottle and a snack packed in light container/wrapping.

•Next Wednesday, the second graders will enjoy our annual Second Grade Breakfast.  Each class is responsible for some part of this breakfast and everyone is welcome.  We will eating on Wednesday, June 12 from 9 am – 9:45 am.  We hope to see you there!

•We have completed all homework for second grade this year.  However, it is ALWAYS a good idea to maintain the nightly reading habit and practice math facts as needed. 

•We are continuing our math routine focused around MATH FACT FLUENCY. If your child could use additional practice at home, I have sent you a separate email.  This practice could take many forms—flashcards, apps on phones/tablets, verbal quizzes or math games.

What We Did:
Reading
•We worked on finishing our Google Slides. 

•We continued to read just right books.
Writing
•We worked on crafting two paragraphs about our rainforest animals.

•We wrote two more poems.
Math
•We practiced what we have learned about multiplication arrays.
•We took a math fact fluency check.
Science/Social Studies
•We continued our study of the rainforest and the animals that live there.
Other stuff
•We celebrated the wonderful and retiring Ms. Harvey.
•Our Mindfulness Ambassadors led us in another activity to help calm and center us.

What’s Coming Up:

• We will write one more poem this week. 

•We will all complete our Google Slides about our animal.

•We will write an opinion piece about second grade.

•We will reflect on what our rainforest study taught us ABOUT OURSELVES.

•We will complete the last entry on our second grade timeline.

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 4 Student Treasures:   Something new… In Monday’s homework folder, you will find an envelope attached to an order form.   This is from a company that I recently read about in a teaching blog.   They create both hardcover and softcover books of student work that can be purchased (or not) by parents.   They do provide one free copy of a hardcover book to the classroom, which is why I opted to try it out.   The books will not be processed without a returned order form from every student.   Please do not feel any obligation to purchase a book, but you DO need to complete the order form and return it to me in the envelope as soon as possible in order for the company to process our project.   I need to mail all student materials and order forms by Thursday at the latest.   Please ask me if you have any questions after you see the information that is included in Monday’s h

                                                      in room 15, we strive to be FOCUSED AND RELAXED Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, December 7                                                                                                                            Dear Room 15 Families,                   I want to thank you in advance for your help with the Grandparent Interviews that is the priority homework for the upcoming week.   As I mentioned in Friday’s email, we “practiced” this interview process (student ASKS question, LISTENS to response and THINKS about what their grandparent said to make sure it makes sense to them while adult writes down the answers) using FaceTime with my mom. Week Ending May 11

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 11 “Mindfulness Ambassadors” Beginning this week, we will invite two fourth grade students into our room at the start of each day to lead us in a very brief (<10mins) mindfulness exercise.   These students have been chosen by their teacher and have volunteered to share what they have learned about how being more mindful can lead to increased success both inside and outside of the classroom.   We are excited to learn from our fourth-grade peers.
