Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, February 15
Dear
Room 15 Families,
What
a week that was!
Chinatown,
a presentation about Chinese New Year and
Valentine’s Day all in the same week?!?!?!
Actually,
spring in second grade is FULL of busy-ness and fun, so it’s best we all buckle
up!
Here
is a link to a “parent handbook” for our current math module: Parent
Handbook I hope it will give you a clearer sense of what we are up to in
math.
•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in
and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life. More
info here

What
We Did:
Reading
|
•We
took a closer look at several features that are common in non-fiction texts. Many of these will be included in our
scrapbooks that we started this week.
•We
are reading non-fiction texts for this current round of reading assessments.
|
Writing
|
•Most
of us have completed our grandparent biographies.
•We
started work on our scrapbooks that will serve to hold memories and learnings
from our study of migration and family history.
|
Math
|
•We
learned how to solve double-digit addition problems presented in vertical
(“stacking”) orientation. We did this
by using a place value chart to model the problem step-by-step and deciding
to bundle (carry) when necessary.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
continued working on our scrapbook for the migration study.
•We
were invited to hear another migration story from a parent in Ms. Curtis’
class.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
delivered Valentine’s Day cards to each other.
•We
continued to progress on our name collages.
•We
enjoyed a beautiful day in Chinatown.
|
What’s
Coming Up:
•We will work on three more
pages in our scrapbook.
•We will practice solving
addition problems presented in vertical format.
•We will begin our family tree
representation.
•We will work on the February
section of our second grade timeline.
