Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, February 1

Dear Room 15 Families,

We had so much fun on Ellis Island Day!  I just want to thank you ALL again for your support and help.  I know it took quite a bit of work at home to help prepare your child.  Of course, the day itself RELIED on your help to make it happen.

This Wednesday, we will have our first (of two) Bake Sale to benefit RAICES.  Please visit this Sign Up Genius if you would like to join us at the sale.  You can just send in baked goods (following the guidelines included in the Sign Up Genius) with your child on Wednesday morning if you can’t make it to the sale.

Edna’s amazing Young Authors’ Fair is scheduled for March 29.  This is such a special annual event.  Information will be sent home this week.
All information is on the library website as well.  Please visit the link below for details.  There is also a link to print another entry slip.

•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life.       More info here

•We wrote structured paragraphs about things we learned about our grandparent through our interview.
Math
•We learned a new strategy (the arrow way) of adding and subtracting any two numbers.
Science/Social Studies
•We participated in Ellis Island Day simulation.
Other stuff
•We discussed lunch time expectations and possible solutions to lunch problems—more on this to come.
•We finished our work on a hand-sewing Valentine’s craft.
•We continued to film teachers talking about their role models.

What’s Coming Up:

•We will complete our Grandparent Biographies.

•We will begin our Scrapbook to collect our experiences from our immigration  and family study.

•We will be introduced to more complex multi-step word problems.

•We will begin reading and discussing books about grandparents as we start to synthesize what we’ve learned about our grandparent.
