Dear Room 15 Families,
                 
Ellis Island Day is this Thursday!  Students should come to school in costume with their bundle.  We can’t wait.  Thank you so much for helping us out with this important simulation.  Obviously, we could not do this without you.

What We Did:
Reading
•We read picture books about European emigrants to Ellis Island.

•We spent time discussing how realistic reading goals can help readers grow.
Writing
•We continued writing our grandparent biographies.
•We are continuing to craft paragraphs with a topic sentence, the body sentences and a conclusion sentence.
Math
•We started a new math module.
Science/Social Studies
•We completed our Immigrant Profiles.
Other stuff
•We decided to host a charity bake sale on two consecutive Wednesday afternoons (2/6 and 2/13).
•We started to work on a Valentine’s craft that involves hand sewing.
•We started to film teachers talking about their role models.

What’s Coming Up:

•We will work on the cover of our Grandparent Biographies.

•We will participate in interviews about our Immigrant Profiles.

•We will participate in our Ellis Island Day simulation.

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 4 Student Treasures:   Something new… In Monday’s homework folder, you will find an envelope attached to an order form.   This is from a company that I recently read about in a teaching blog.   They create both hardcover and softcover books of student work that can be purchased (or not) by parents.   They do provide one free copy of a hardcover book to the classroom, which is why I opted to try it out.   The books will not be processed without a returned order form from every student.   Please do not feel any obligation to purchase a book, but you DO need to complete the order form and return it to me in the envelope as soon as possible in order for the company to process our project.   I need to mail all student materials and order forms by Thursday at the latest.   Please ask me if you have any questions after you see the information that is included in Monday’s h

Week Ending May 11

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 11 “Mindfulness Ambassadors” Beginning this week, we will invite two fourth grade students into our room at the start of each day to lead us in a very brief (<10mins) mindfulness exercise.   These students have been chosen by their teacher and have volunteered to share what they have learned about how being more mindful can lead to increased success both inside and outside of the classroom.   We are excited to learn from our fourth-grade peers.
