Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, January 18
Dear
Room 15 Families,
This
week’s homework is all about our upcoming Ellis Island Day. Your child will be bringing home his/her
Immigrant Profile and some information about how to plan his/her costume,
including a bundle. If you have any questions
about this after reading it, please ask me as soon as you can.
We
will continue to work on our grandparent biographies as well.
If you haven’t yet shared a photo of the grandparent
that your child interviewed, we would LOVE to have that as your child is writing about him/her. Don’t worry about the quality (it can be a
photo of the photo), size or age of the photo.
It would be best if this could be emailed to me or added to your child’s
Google Drive.
•REVISION INQUIRY: We
would really love to
have you come in and share your experience about how you use mistakes in
your life. More info

What
We Did:
Reading
|
•We
focused on nonfiction features in the books, articles and websites we are
using to learn about Ellis Island.
•We
are thinking more deeply about the story
of a book vs the message of
that book.
|
Writing
|
•We
continued writing our grandparent biographies.
•We
are learning about how to craft a paragraph with a topic sentence, the body
sentences and a conclusion sentence.
|
Math
|
•We
completed the math module.
•We
took an end-of-module math assessment.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
learned a lot about Ellis Island through a webquest.
•We
created an Immigrant Profile.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
decided to host a charity bake sale on two consecutive Wednesday afternoons
(2/6 and 2/13).
•We
each made a Valentine card to be delivered to a local elderly person.
•We
scheduled filming appointments for teachers to share about a role model.
|
What’s
Coming Up:
•We will continue to work on drafting
our grandparent biographies.
•We will practice our Immigrant
Profiles.
•We will plan our immigrant
bundles and costumes.
•We will start filming teachers
talking about a role model they have in their life.

CONGRATULATIONS
These
students scored as well or better on the
Weekly Math Review
(made
up of mixed computation problems) as compared with the previous week.
We did not have a Math Reivew on
Friday. Instead, we took an
end-of-module math assessment.

Yikes! Unfortunately, I
left the list of completed Homework Plus at school. I will update this on the blog this week.
[
X2 = both Homework Plus options were
completed]
ALL homework, including Homework Plus,
