Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, November 9

Dear Room 15 Families,

It has been wonderful to sit down and talk with you during conferences.  I look forward to doing that with everyone this week.

Thank you for the donation of the flower pots.  We have plenty now and students will be able to choose from a varied assortment.

Unfortunately, there is NO READ and RELAX this Friday.  The good news is that we have an all-school PROUD assembly scheduled for that time, so that will be fun.

Remember that dismissal for the next two weeks is at 1:55 each day.

•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life.       More info here

What We Did:
Reading
• We are tracking how many days we spend with the same title.

•We are trusting in our reading partners to help us work towards our reading goals.
Writing
•We continued to revise our small moment stories.  We focused on satisfying endings.
Math
•We used our knowledge of ones, tens and hundreds to count from one number to another number.
Science/Social Studies
•We answered the question Is Water Powerful Enough to Form Canyons?

•We shared what we know about biographies.
Other stuff
•We agreed on a final path for our fairy garden.

•We started to think about a partner for our flower pot fairy gardens.

•We will meet with our buddies and enjoy all the identity webs that we created during a gallery walk.

What’s Coming Up:

•This week, we use Langston Hughes’ poem Thanksgiving Time.  We will use this as a model to share what we love about Thanksgiving.

•We will read several biographies as we look at the subjects of these books as CHANGE AGENTS affecting change in the world.

•We will continue to focus on place value.

•We will start building our fairy gardens (hopefully).

•We will hear all about Oreo’s first big weekend away from room 15.

•We will be dismissed at 1:55 each day this week.
