Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, May 3
Dear
Room 15 Families,
It
was great to see so many of you at Friday’s
fable performance. Honestly, I only
wish you could see all the work that your kids to pull that together. Their commitment to each other was the
most remarkable part of the process.
We
are gearing up to begin our long-term study of the RAINFOREST. You will continue to hear about our progress
via newsletters. Any work you could do
at home building interest and knowledge about the rainforest would be super
awesome. Books, websites, documentaries
and even magazine/news articles all help to build and solidify understanding. If you or someone you know has a
connection to tropical rainforests (even a family vacation to one), we would
love to hear your story. Just
sharing what was special to you via your words and photos/videos would be
helpful. Let me know if you might be
able to stop by our classroom for a visit!
We
started our new routine focused around MATH
FACT FLUENCY. There are five versions of math fact
assessments that are given in graduated order.
This is our one and only timed activity and students have two minutes to
complete each sheet. When students are
able to correctly answer at least 36 of the 40 problems on a page in that time,
they will move to the next level.
Continued progress may require practice at home and this is reflected in
a shift in the homework. There are many resources
to help build this skill and students have shared some of these with each other
in class. In addition to flash cards and
various workbooks, https://gregtangmath.com
is a personal favorite and offers a whole bunch of options. These include online games, printables, books
and puzzles geared to help build math fact fluency in fun and productive ways.
•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in
and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life. More
