Weekly Update
for the Week Ending
Friday, March 29

Dear Room 15 Families,

There are many important dates coming up for Edna students and families.
Here are a few that are particularly relevant for us (I’m sure I’ve left something off):
Friday, April 5—Field trip to Old Dixie Schoolhouse
                  April 8 – April 19—Spring Break
April 23 and April 30 Cooking with Kids will be leading two cooking/nutrition lessons
(Thanks to a Kiddo! mini-grant)
May 16, 2:15-3:00—Second grade music performance
                  June 6—Open house

The spring is a great time to get outside and I know SO MANY of our second graders are doing just that during organized sports and activities.  I love to make it to at least part of a game/performance if it’s possible.  If you think my attendance would be ok with your child, please share a game schedule (or equivalent) and I will try my best to make it.  It really is so valuable to see these kids outside of school.

SAVE THE DATE:
Here is flyer about an upcoming music performance organized by our music teacher Elizabeth Robertson.

REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life.       More info here

What We Did:
Reading
•We shared book recommendations with each other.

•In groups, we read versions of a particular fable and then created a skit to act out in front of each other.
Writing
•We chose one All About book to publish.
•We wrote a poem about JOY!  These are displayed on the classroom window facing outside—check them out!
Math
•We started a study guide for our upcoming mid module assessment.
Science/Social Studies
•We tested glues.
•We observed different materials in glue and set up a test to analyze each separately.
Other stuff
•We loved having Sing-a-Story come into our room to help us perform a mini opera.
•We enjoyed the Young Authors’ Fair.

What’s Coming Up:

•We will continue our engineering study of glue.

•We will choose groups and fables to prepare for our future performance for families (this will happen after spring break).

•We will start publishing our All About book.  This will include adding an introduction, a conclusion, specific non-fiction features and revising for points of clarity, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

•We will take a mid module assessment.

•We will take a field trip to Old Dixie Schoolhouse in San Rafael to see what school was like long ago.
