Dear Room 15 Families,
                 
Due to preparing progress reports (they will be sent home on Thursday), this is a very abbreviated newsletter.

•There is no school for students on Friday, March 8.

•Please plan to join us for Family Heritage Night on Thursday, March 14 from 5:30 – 7.

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 4 Student Treasures:   Something new… In Monday’s homework folder, you will find an envelope attached to an order form.   This is from a company that I recently read about in a teaching blog.   They create both hardcover and softcover books of student work that can be purchased (or not) by parents.   They do provide one free copy of a hardcover book to the classroom, which is why I opted to try it out.   The books will not be processed without a returned order form from every student.   Please do not feel any obligation to purchase a book, but you DO need to complete the order form and return it to me in the envelope as soon as possible in order for the company to process our project.   I need to mail all student materials and order forms by Thursday at the latest.   Please ask me if you have any questions after you see the information that is included in Monday’s h

Week Ending May 11

in room 15, we strive to be focused and relaxed Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, May 11 “Mindfulness Ambassadors” Beginning this week, we will invite two fourth grade students into our room at the start of each day to lead us in a very brief (<10mins) mindfulness exercise.   These students have been chosen by their teacher and have volunteered to share what they have learned about how being more mindful can lead to increased success both inside and outside of the classroom.   We are excited to learn from our fourth-grade peers. Multiplication Last week, we shared with each other what we already knew about multiplication.   We realized that it feels like a sort of “short cut” to addition.   One way that we will be talking about multiplication in room 15 is by using the words groups of to represent the concept of multiplication.   We will be reading the X notation in a multiplication equation as groups of , as well.   For example, in

WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE

August 16, 2018 Dear Room 15 Family, I would love to be the first to welcome you to 2nd grade!   I hope that everyone is enjoying the remaining days of the summer.   While it has been great to spend more time with my own family during the past two months, I am very excited to get back to Edna Maguire to begin a wonderful new school year.    I hope that you are expecting a fun and full second grade year.   It’s true that you will see your child develop independently at an incredible pace.   We will continue to rely on your support and involvement throughout the school year to make the most of this growth.   We’ll talk more about this at Meet the Teacher Night, but please be thinking about ways that you might enjoy helping us all out this year.   Some things that you can look forward to learning about with your child this year include;             •The history of your own family , with a focus on immigration stories          •Ways that we can think
