in room 15, we strive to be FOCUSED AND RELAXED Weekly Update for the Week Ending Friday, March 15                                                                                                                          Dear Room 15 Families, Thank you so much for joining us last Thursday for Family Heritage Night. I loved watching your kids share their work with you and the food was actually too good! Thank you also for making last week a week FULL of appreciation!!! I certainly felt appreciated. The notes, gifts and daily lunches were pretty amazing. Here is a link to a “parent handbook” for our current math module: Parent Handbook I hope it will give you a clearer sense of what we are up to in math. •REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share your experience about how you use mistakes in your life. More info here •Please consider checking out these ways to help our school community: Car Line/Lunch Line Volunteer Sign Up Our CENTERS schedule has been updated: Check it out here! Please visit our blog here:  http://focusedandrelaxed.blogspot.com What We Did: Reading •We started to read fables (our next reading study) in pairs. If you have books of fables at home, share them with your child. •We are sharing great books about families and the natural diversity we find among them. In all of these books that we are reading and discussing together, we are finding the common theme to be that families come in all types of sizes and configurations and that the common denominator is that all families share love. Writing •We have started our newest writing project. We are writing “all about” books. The structure of the study will follow the same pattern as our small moment study from the fall. Students will write a handful of “All About” books and then choose one of those to revise. This time around, revision will include writing an introduction and a closing and fixing for fluidity and details, along with spelling and capitalization. Math •We are continuing to refine our practice of solving addition and subtraction problems using the stacking way (vertical). Science/Social Studies •We completed our long-term migration and family history study. Other stuff •We met with our buddies for another building STEM challenge. This time, groups used natural materials to build a next that could hold three eggs (marbles). What’s Coming Up: •We will start a new unit in science about properties of matter. •We will compare popular fables •We will write more All About books. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONGRATULATIONS These students scored as well or better on the Weekly Math Review (made up of mixed computation problems) as compared with the previous week. •Alena •Ella •Eito •Jackson •Mia •Noah This Math Review was challenging. We will be taking a closer look at it together on Monday. ____________________________________________________________________ These students completed the optional HOMEWORK PLUS last week.
