FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Dear Room 15
Family,
I hope that
your child had a fun first day of second grade.
I certainly did! I trust that your child will have a lot to
share with you about the day back at Edna Maguire. It was certainly full!
Some of the
things we did today include;
•went on a
guided scavenger hunt of the Edna
Maguire campus
•spent time
mapping out our classroom
•found our
own “attendance magnet”
•talked about our “First Day Feelings”
•enjoyed
the first exciting chapter of Poppy
•hosted a
guest speaker tell us about one way she uses mistakes to help her get better
•milled
about our room a bit as we got to know
each other through a musical game
You may
want to ask your child about a few of these specifics to get some details.
Please know
that you will be provided a lot of information about our classroom at Meet the
Teacher Night on Thursday, September 13.
For now, here are just a few things that I wanted to let you know about.
• “Tell
Me About Your Child” Mini Check-ins are scheduled for Thursday, August
30. These are totally optional and just
provide some time to let me know anything you’d like to about your child. Please use the link below to sign up for an
optional Tell Me About Your Child mini-conference. Fitting everyone into
one day is a bit of a trick, so let me know if we run out of spaces that work
for you.
Feel free to email me and I’ll send you the Sign Up Genius link.
•Meet the Teacher
is scheduled for the
evening of Thursday, September 13.
Details will come home soon, just save that date for now.
•The
ever-popular “First Day Packet” is new-and-improved this year. You will be receiving ONLY the PTA First Day
packet, there is no longer a district First Day packet with forms because…drum
roll…the forms are now available to all parents electronically through a system
called “School Mint.” All parents should have received an email from School
Mint last week asking them to create an account and fill out the typical first
day forms (emergency card, walking field trip form, etc.). If you have not
received said email, please check your SPAM.
If that doesn’t solve the problem, please direct questions about this to
our wonderful Assistant Principal Aubrey O’Connor at aoconnor@mvschools.org
•We will
talk about regular second grade
homework procedures
at Meet the Teacher Night. Before that,
students will have a fun project to work which will be sent home on Tuesday,
September 4. Until then, please help
your child continue (or re-establish) his/her nightly reading habit and talk to
your child about school.
• I would love to have a group email for our class ready as
soon as possible. If you haven’t done so
already, please
email me so that I can share a Google Doc with you to collect email addresses. As soon as I have heard from everyone, I
will send out an email to our group.
That’s it
for now. I am excited to see you all at
Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 13 (or at a “Tell Me About Your
Child” check-in on August 30. I invite
you to contact me whenever you have a question or a concern.
Yours,
Adam
