Week Ending of Sept. 21
Weekly
Update for the Week Ending
Friday,
September 21
Dear Room 15 Families,
OK. So, I’m begging asking you all
again. If you are willing and able to
swing by our room sometime to let us know how YOU use mistakes, that would be
AWESOME. Think about what you could talk
about…..organizing? cooking? Gardening?
Art? Learning a new sport? Or a new language? On your job?
•REVISION INQUIRY: We would really love to have you come in and share
your experience. More info here
•ART PARENT:
Our art would love some help in the art room. This is sometimes half class and sometimes
whole class and the year’s schedule will be shared with the volunteer(s) so
that this does need to be an every-week commitment. Our art time is Tuesday 10:15 – 11:00.
•REMIND TEXT GROUP:
Text this message: @73kcc to this number: 81010 to join so that you will
receive (infrequent) texts from about class/school goings-on.
•CENTERS: I am
in the process of building the Sign Up Genius for help with centers. I will send a separate email with a link to
that when it is ready. Centers will be
on Wednesday and Friday 10:45 – 11:45.
What We Did:
Reading
|
•
We are talking about how to refine our weekly reading goals to make sure that
they are realistic goals that will
help grow stronger as readers.
•We
practiced using our retelling hand to both think about and talk about our
reading.
|
Writing
|
•We
looked at letters to our classroom visitors and then wrote letters to our own
friends.
•We
took our first sentence dictation with words with the short /a/ and /e/
sounds.
|
Math
|
•We
practiced measuring items and adding parts of an object to determine the
total length of an object.
|
Science/Social
Studies
|
•We
learned about different kinds of maps and how maps can show more than one
place at a time.
|
Other
stuff
|
•We
delivered our Rat Questionnaires which was crazy exciting.
•We
started sharing our Top Ten Posters.
|
What’s Coming Up:
•This week, we will be focusing
on the short vowel sounds /i/ as in pit, /o/ as in hop, and /u/ as in fun.
•We will explore in detail wall
maps, road maps, globes, atlases and
Google Earth.
•We will decide what exactly we
need in order to host a healthy and happy pet rat in our classroom.
•We build our own rulers and
then use them to measure things around the room.
•We will sort the words on our
word lists.
•We will enjoy Read and Relax
with families invited.
CONGRATULATIONS
These
students scored as well or better on the
